57 ferguson to35 cam shaft distributor gear

Hi thanks for reading the gears on my
camshaft are stripped the ones that run my
distributor and I was wondering what all I
would need to do to remove the camshaft and
either change the gears or replace it

To remove the camshaft the front cover must be taken off your engine. This will require removing the front axle off the tractor, the crankshaft pulley and all other parts that are in the way.

Carefully remove the front cover, it is made of aluminum on the Z134, can break and is costly to replace. Remove the governor assembly. To remove the camshaft and front gear rotate the camshaft to remove the fasteners that hold it in place. The camshaft should now slide out.

The issue with removing it this way is that the lifters will want to fall down and putting the shaft back in will be almost impossible. In the end I think it best to remove the engine put it on an engine lift and then put the engine upside down. Removing the rocker arm assembly will keep the lifters from being pushed down. If you take the oil pan off though the lifters can be pushed down as the camshaft if pushed in place, this would avoid removing the rocker arm assembly.

I've taken at least 50 of these type of engines apart, but very few of them ever get put back together.
