Hello, I would like to seal my leaking T0 30 gas tank but I have has the typical loose baffles that I have to deal with. Is this a lost cause? I have a good friend who can weld anything. Is it possible to cut open the top of the tank, remove the baffle, have him weld any suspect seams and then weld the top back on? Then if it still leaks seal it with a sealing kit? Thanks Jim

You desire it done right, fill with water and cut it open. Nice to have a friend that can weld anything. I have one of those. He did a cast iron front axle center for me after I bought him an oven.

I had the same problem with the baffles in my TO30 tank. Cut a rectangular hole in the top rear of the tank enough to get the baffles out but left a flap. Removed the baffles and hammered the flap back down and had my friend weld it closed. Worked well. Also did the same thing to the tank on my 1938 Case CC. My friend can also weld anything. Me on the other hand weld like I paint, put a lot on and keep grinding it down and keep doing it until it looks good. Important stuff I leave to professionals. Hope this helps, Allan.

It could be done, just need to weigh the cost of a new tank verses how much effort and money you want to put in the old one.

If it's rusting out, the rusty area could be cut out and replaced, but what about the rest of it? The flaking rust is also a problem, even if it's not leaking yet.

If your friend works for free, and is aware of the hazards of welding a gas tank, it might be worth it. Just proceed with caution!

Before I put all that time and effort into cutting the tank apart and putting it back together I would source a good used one or buy a new one.

I'm picking up a TO30 for a friend this weekend. I think the engine might have a crack. If so it will be parted out. the tank has gas in it and doesn't leak. If you want to go the used tank route my email is open. Located in 07838 NJ
