I was also wondering if this site was working as there had been no activity.
other sites such as 8n were working.

question: If the generator on my TO35 ever goes out or the gear box that drives the tachometer ever goes out.

is there a electronic low rpm tachometer out there some where that will fit in the dash tachometer hole and look OK. also how and where would you hook it up??????????
 
I got a VDO brand from Summit Racing a few years ago. It seems accurate based on the RPM range of my MF 50. I'd prefer the mechanical original but when I had to rebuild my generator I chose to upgrade it to 12 v and rewired for neg. ground.
 
I sure hope if my tractor meter ever goes, that there will be replacement parts available to fix it. Is the main part of the generator not the same as GM auto generators built from 55 to 62? if so there must still be lots of them out there. I dont know for sure but my tach.and gen.sure look like they could be the original ones on my 55 to35,so one more quality rebuild should last the lifetime of the tractor, I am thinking.
 
I got a to 35 last winter and the tack was there but the gears were stripped out of the back of the genny. I got my new gears from All States Ag parts. Put them in and every thing worked like it was suppose to. Its not a bad time to lube the tack cable. Randy
 
You can use the Chevy genny but case is little different. You will have to thread the end of armature with 8-32 for tack drive gear to screw into. If you keep the tack gear lubed it will not strip gear. I use assembly grease. Take small screws out and pack around gear.

I've had an electric tach in my to-35 for years. It is a Suntach 50. Round and fits perfectly in the dash. Even through the hole where the cable used to go. I just used a big washer over the cable hole and it fit perfectly. Only issue is that it is a normal tach up to about 8K rpm's.
