I bought a thermostat for my te20 i would say something is wrong.i tried to put it in the way i was told here by putting the pointed end in towards the radiator.now there is lip around the thermostat i would think it should fit in the mouth appox 5/16 of an inch an stop at the lip too secure somewhat.not sure if i have the wrong size thermostat or a devil tractor.

It sounds as you have the correct t-stat. If you set it up on end then look at that little band around the t-stat it should have words that tells you which way to put it in. PUSH hard and it should go in. That way it won't move around.

Thermostat for 30 does not have a "lip" per se. Thermostat for the 35 has a lip and installs differently. Make sure you have correct thermostat.

Here's a picture of the thermostat they sent me

(quoted from post at 23:56:00 12/23/15) that's the one ordered for a te 20 is it wrong or right I know it doesn't fit like im told?

That is the replacement thermostat for a TE-20,TEA-20,TO-20,TO-30,Ford 9N,2N, and 8N. They all use the same thermostat that goes in the upper radiator hose. It's not a drop in fit...but it will go.

That's the same one used for my 8N and it is a bit difficult to get in because of that raised portion, but warming up the hose makes it easier to install. That lip keeps it from moving with water pressure. The earlier thermostats were held in place with an exterior band that was included on replacement upper hoses. The idea was to maintain the thermostat close to the water outlet from the head so that the hose is protected from constant water pressure and possible ballooning over time.

This thermostat should be pushed in far enough to allow the outlet to fit properly but not further.

I own a TEA-20 Harry Ferguson tractor with a Standard/Vanguard Engine:
Here is a picture of exactly what the Thermostat and housing looks like in my TEA-20:
There is a machined counter bore in the housing in which the Thermostat drops into:

In the archives type in TEA 20 Thermostat and read the info from "Bob from OZ"
