What am I looking at?

Had a look at two Fergies yesterday. I believe one is a TE20 and the other is a TEA20. 1949 and 1950. Let's see if I can upload some pics from my phone......stand by.

Agh, not a problem Richard... I didn't even wake up yet. And Inno is in another time zone...
Easiest thing to know the difference Inno, in my mind anyway, the oil filler cap on a Continental is up front, a Standard engine TEA the filler cap is in the back.

I have to get the pics off my phone and re size them. I don't think I'll be getting these ones. He is asking way too much and didn't reply when I emailed him an offer.

Ok, took some time but I think I can upload them now. And I got a surprise today, he emailed me back and he's come way down on his price. I'd pay what he's asking now if he delivers......

The Standard missing it's spark plugs is a bit of a concern, couldn't grip anything tight enough to see if it turns. The Continental is not locked up.

The Ferguson with the blue painted engine has an 85mm engine. I can tell from the oil filler cap and the oil filter assembly. I parted out one of these a few years ago. The 85mm engine shares very few parts with the 80mm engine.

The parts from the rest of the tractor are similar. The part numbers on the tractor with the standard engine are different, but they will fit the US made tractor. Gas tank is a good example of this, completely different but the original parts book I have says that it will interchange. If you search flea bay for TEA-20 parts more than likely you will stumble upon a vendor that has a fair amount of them along with other Ferguson 20 and 30 parts. Check them out and you will be able to identify some of the similarities and differences.

Good Luck
Dave

Try to purchase this manual:
I purchased this PARTS MANUAL off E-BAY:
It shows you what is interchangeable and not:
T0 20/T0 30/TE 20/TEA-20

The TE-20 has a Continental engine, the Standard engine was not ready at first while the TEA-20 has the Standard engine. I think the TO-20 only had the Continental engine.

The TE20 has struts underneath to brace up the Continental engine.

The TEA20 has a full circle attachment to the bell-housing and
will hold up pretty well without stripping out the screws going
into the alloy housing.

Cdmn has an important point here, the TEA tranny is old spitfires and hurricanes, so you can't reef on bolts or hammer it around like the US 20.
But- my TEA was stuck too, but as I has such a hard time getting the engine off, then realizing the clutch plate was rusted tight to the flywheel, hey once separated, the engine could turn with one hand. And these Standards are build like a ship engine, a good power wire brushing will cure most ills. As far as interchangeable parts- almost nothing engine wise, probably nothing further back, but you are so close to the border, there must be tons of brain donors for both. Did you get them home yet?

Well.......no, I haven't gone to get them yet. And I don't think I will. I've got him down to $400 for the pair. That's like $34.98 US for those of you who are keeping track. But in the grand scheme of things, I'm really in want/need of something newer, something with a cab and heat. That has recently been re-inforced since we finally got some snow overnight. If they were both the same model that would make a difference. So I think, as much as it would be fun, it isn't really something I have time for right now. If anyone else is interested they're fair game, I can get you the info.

O Inno... you make it sound like you were up in the great Canadian northwoods or something...
I don't think you'll find a cabover anything for 10 times that money... heck the rims are worth that!! If you parted them out I would buy the rear axle assemblies for my TEA, geeezzzzz....
go sleep on it... you'll feel better in the morning.
Don't feel bad, it ain't warm down here on the way to Mexico either. I didn't move far enough south.....

I think the heat is getting to ya! I did sleep on it and that's what I came up with. I wanted to find another fixer upper but I would have preferred one in a little better shape........or two that are the same. I dunno, maybe I'm getting soft in my middle age.....I really do want something with a heater in it.
