is ok to just any old car battery in my TE 20?i did something really dumb I got rid of my old battery by accident because it was bad an I not sure of the right size to make sure it fits in?
can someone please bale out the stupid please?

If your's is a 12V contraption then by and large most 12V auto batteries will work 'cuz you ain't got a big engine to start up. Now if that battery gets more than about 4 years of age then the genny spends more time charging a weak battery. If you have to jump it to use it then it's long, long past time for a battery.

Hardly a stupid thing to do , there is no trouble at all . Yes any battery that will fit will do , just make sure it really does fit and is not too tall . The worst thing you can do is fit one that allows the terminals to short out on the hood when you hit a bump!
Having the right terminals for the tractor's cables also helps .
While I was restoring my TED20 I used an old golf cart battery to turn it over and start . I ended up keeping it in the tractor for another six months , it worked a treat . The low compression engine doesn't take much to turn over so the battery , at least in good weather can be quite modest in capacity .
