TO 35 Charging Issue

my tractor voltage regulator was not charging the battery.

I installed a new voltage regulator today, 12 volt,

now the amp needle goes over to 12 volts and stays there as the tractor is running at 1000 rpm or so.

if I idle it down the needle goes back to center,
if I turn on the lights it goes neg just a bit, then back to charge as I increase the rpms.

all this sounds right except when driving around in the barn yard at 1000 or more rpm's the needle is charging all the time around 12 volts.

I just charged up the battery the other day, so it should be almost at full charge.

any one have a suggestion other than drive it from now on with the lights on.

should I continue to drive the tractor, do not want to blow up my battery by overcharging?

thanks, Fred,

Most 12 volt regulators charge a little over 14 volts when you need a charge, yours at 12 is where it should be with a charged battery.

Make sure the base of the regulator is grounded.

If you have a volt meter, put it across the battery, engine revved up, see what you have. If it's going over
14v something is wrong. Could be a bad regulator, recheck the wiring.

If the voltage is good but still charging all the time, could be a weak battery. Could have it load tested,
or if you have a known good battery, try it.

It could burn out the generator running it that way, boil the battery.

Installed the new voltage regulator this morning,
Cleaned the mount surfaces so there would be good contact
Amp gauge reads fine now, after a short while it goes back to center position

At this point, I am a happy camper, just hope it stays that way.

Thanks for the maintenance tips.
