TO 30 steering gear lubricant fill Q

After removing plug from steering gear housing, discovered fluid to be very low. However pinion & ring look nice and shinny untouched by corrosion.

Would AP 1 gear oil be correct fluid, and is housing filled to bottom of filler plug? I haven't found any reference in repair manual to lubricating this part.

According to the owners manual it says to maintain with two quarts of transmission lubricant. That being stated you could use almost any
lubricant and or gear oil. If the arms show any leakage some here are using corn head grease. What I replaced my bearings and seals I put in
85wt gear oil. Seems to work fine.

Thanks for the info folks. I purchased a jug of GL 1 90 weight the other day, so in it goes.

Learned something here, Green Grease, never heard of it before; interesting stuff.
