Zenith 24T2 Carb Leaking

If it is the hole in the float chamber you are referring to then it is probably the float sticking causing the leak . This is a very small vent hole in the side of the 24T .
Caused by a little grit under the needle most times . A quick fix is to gently rap the side of the chamber with a plastic screwdriver handle a few times . This will usually dislodge the grit .
Time though to check the filters , tank and lines for cleanliness , take off the float chamber and clean it and while there check the float for any pin holes . If the float leaks it will cause this trouble as well .
Sometimes this can be so bad that the entire tank can leak out , filling the air filter bowl with fuel at the same time .
Shutting off the fuel at the tank when finished working is the best way to make sure this never happens .

Thanks for the reply. Problem was that there were two aluminum washers under the needle valve in the float bowl vs one (as per the exploded diagram of this carb.) Removed it and problem gone.

I replaced a float in my 24T recently as i thought it was the woes to my leak, looked at the old float and it was dented or pushed down at the top probably a bush fix ha !. Left out the washes and threw in the new float and problem solved no more leaks

Could you/someone tell me (or show picture) where is that very small vent hole what you mean? My 24-T2 also sometimes leaking (gasoline coming out air cleaner hole)... I have tvo carburetor float and they are of different heights. I don't know which is correct? Someone tell me that float correct measurement are around 38mm X height 20mm?

Yes, the float is 20 x 38mm. My carb was leaking out of the approx. 10mm hole in the bottom of the carb that is packed with a very fine mesh.

I still can't upload photos for some reason :?

The vent hole is very small, only one millimetre in size , It is in the side of the float chamber under the fuel inlet junction .

Ok, thanks. And it's necessary to be open (leaking stop when it's open)? Can I opened that hole when carburetor is installed on the engine?

We're talking two different things. On the BOTTOM of the carb is a 10mm hole with a 'pressed in' screen. It will drain out fuel from the throat downstream from the choke butterfly valve.

If you disassemble the carb, ensure you drain the float bowl first. Keep carb level at all times while transporting the carb and while removing the five screws which secure the upper and lower halves. Separate carefully so as not to damage the gasket. The reason I recommend this is that you can tell a lot by whether the gasket is wet. The gasket should be dry around all the areas it is designed to prevent fuel from entering. This includes internal as well as external. If there are sections of the gasket that are wet (where it shouldn't be) then possibly this is a source of undesirable fuel migration (wicking) which will eventually work its way south and out the hole previously described.

I use these FLOATS in my TEA-20 PETROL/GASOLINE 85MM Engines.

(quoted from post at 03:29:35 10/30/15) My mistake.........Sorry....
Height should have read 23 MM

How accurate the carburetor is the height of the float? Works carburetor correctly if the float high is 21-22 mm?

And could Charles or someone else tell me where is that small vent hole is? I cant found it.

The vent hole is obvious if there is one , some carburetors had them some didn't . I don't know if these were factory made holes or a modification made by dealers or owners . In any case if there isn't one in yours leave it that way .
Have you checked for holes in the float ? Place it into a glass of hot water and look for a stream of air bubbles , no bubbles no hole. .

I check, there is no hole in float. Now I found new problem. When I shut main jet, so engine is still running. Could someone help me:

1. Is there some washar under main jet (what is measurements)? My Zenith don't have.

2. What is measurement (how deep), where main jet is. Give depth carburetor outer edge to main jet. Is it possible that main jet is too deep?
