OT - Cover Crop Radish in Garden

This was the Worst Garden Year Ever for me, so I gave up and planted daikon radish. ("GroundHog Radish" and "Tillage Radish" are brands; I used generic seed.)
The biggest ones (pictured) have a couple of inches above ground, and about eight inches below. They should have another six weeks or so before frost/freeze.
I think they'll do some good, plus, they're fun to watch! :)

some local farmers in my community of west ky planted radishes as a cover crop,

it appears the plant would break up the soil well and provide plenty of material to incorporate into the soil in the spring.

I was impressed as I drove by seeing a whole field of radishes.

They work well for that. However, from personal experience, do not let them go to seed! If you do, you will be dealing with radishes for several years afterwards. They don't like 2,4D.

Thanks for the tip, Tim. They don't seem to be trying to bolt yet, but I'll keep an eye on them. Cooler weather and less daylight should help, too.

I've planted radish around my pumpkin plants in the spring to act as a cover to choke out weeds. Its a lot easier to pull radish than weeds once the pumpkins are up.
