Wheel rim/wheel center problem

Bought new rims for the ol' heap, and yesterday I commenced to install the centers on them. The way the rim clamps are made and welded to the rim prevents the center from sitting on the top of the clamps like it's supposed to. Looks like I have two options, grind the ears on the rim clamps or grind the wheel center to get the clearance I need. Wondering which way ya'll think is best? Pics below
Thanks,

JDD, I think the holes would line up, but the way the lugs are made, the wheel center doesn't drop down far enough to fit on the lugs correctly.

Bill, I had the same issue with an aftermarket replacement rim I bought for the TO-20.

I started out by grinding on the lugs on the aftermarket rim for a while, but I said "pi55 on this", and ended up having my old original rim repaired. (Just sold the aftermarket rim a few weeks ago, in fact.)

If I absolutely had to use the new rim, I think I'd grind on the rim, NOT the original wheel center. I'd be really hesitant to butcher up an original center just to make it fit on a new "almost right" rim.

(quoted from post at 19:17:41 09/16/15) What brand of tractor uses that center????

I don't know, it was on the tractor when I got it. It had one standard rim and one power adjust rim, both were rusted out and leaking, so I bought new rims from Sp---x.

Wound up grinding three of the lugs down and that let the center seat like it should.

Maybe if I win the lottery I'll restore this ol' tractor correctly, but for now I just need to get it back to work. :)

You just need a big tapered drift pin, like an iron worker's wrench. That and some muscle.
Even that coat of nice red paint can keep things from lining up they way they were- I doubt grinding is necessary if you got a big enough hammer.

Actually TE-20's used a solid center with looped rims. Even if it was a Ford center it wouldn't matter as they are the same. When N owners replace their hat rims they use regular loop rims. Same bolt spacing.

If you want an original style loop rim get a Titan rim. I bought one and they fit perfectly and allow you to use the original pip head bolts. Those Tisco/Sparex rims won't let you do that!
