How long is the transmission dip stick in a TO35 I think the one on my tractor has been altered Thanks for your help. Randy

They are not very long to begin with. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, you can see if your level is correct by removing the lower bolt on the dipstick housing and oil level should be even with hole.

New dipsticks are available here.

on my 1957 TO35 the transmission dip stick is 5" long. bottom of head to tip

however, the dipstick cover or head goes over the tube sticking out of the transmission housing about 1/2"

so I would say from the top of the tube sticking out of the transmission to the bottom of my dip stick would be 5 1/2"

this measurement is critical, as you do not want to have too much oil or too little oil in the transmission,

Just my opinion: you should get the new dip stick from a MF dealership. not Billy bob's tractor and 4 wheeler parts store.

note in the pictures, after I pulled the original one out with my boot as I was getting off the tractor and lost it. I attached the second one to the body of the tractor with a short safety chain, so far, have never lost this one and that has been years ago. a time or two over the years I have found the dip stick hanging by the chain, I had pulled it out with my shoe and did not know it, would have been lost if it were not properly secured.

hope this helps some.

That's what got me thinking something was wrong. I took that lower bolt out and oil ran out. I had read other posts that said oil should not run out. When we first got the tractor it was way over filled and we drained out just about a gallon. The previous owner had problems with the lift not going down. That fixed the problem of not going down. According to the dipstick we had the proper amount of oil. But now it appears we still are over filled. There will be a new dipstick ordered asap. Thank you for your replies they really helped me out.

Yes, even with the bottom bolt hole of the round inspection cover. You can hold the dipstick beside the tube and see where the level should be, see if it is the correct dipstick.

If you drain out the oil till it is the proper level with the lower hole, then with the dip stick you have clean and dry insert it and pull it out and take a file and put a mark where the oil line is and you will not need a new stick.
