Hey Charles
I am in Northern Rivers NSW. I am going to rewire the tractor. Is there a recommended wire gauge. Will be replacing all small wires from ignition switch, starter solenoid, coil wires etc. It is all old with more joins than the Kardashians. I get a click at the solenoid but no starter engagement. I think it may be the solenoid any tips on finding out if it is just not getting power across.

Cheers

Hello Robo , the best thing you can do is to run a fat starter cable directly from the positive battery terminal to one of the starter mount bolts , as shown here .

That is if it is still positive to earth . The original earth strap from the battery runs to the dash and is really not up to the task as well as most likely being corroded .
Sparex wiring harnesses available in Australia are not worth a piece of ! Save your money and a lot of disappointment and don't bother buying one . The harness doesn't really amount to much , it is an easy thing to make . Get an old wiring loom from a wrecking yard , older car has heavier wire , pick the right colours and away you go . Only really heavy wire is to the dynamo .

Follow this diagram , if your ignition switch is shot buy a chrome marine keyed ignition from Jaycar electronics , they look almost the same as original . Better screwed terminals at the back and key retention so the key doesn't fall out when driving .

Starter ' solenoid ' is really just a heavy gear stick activated switch . Try repairing yours , the new ones are not a patch on the old . Usually the big contact washer inside just needs a clean . This diagram will help .

I will be at the farm for a few days from early tomorrow so won't be able to respond till Wednesday .

When I was working in New Zealand, there was a pom named 'Robert Shilling'... the gang call him Bob Bob.... and this was years after the money changed... he might be related to our Bob here???

Heya
The tractor has been rewired at some stage with the bare bones to make it work. It is negative to earth and positive to the solenoid.

I would like to rewire the safety switch, I have two young girls and would not be able to live with myself if an accident happened. Is it possble to wire it back up with the positive lead? If so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
