weep hole upside down cotter key

anyone know if its possible to take off the clutch adjustment plate just to the front of the weep hole.

On the bottom frame of a TO35 Ferguson and thread a cotter key up and around and back down and through the weep hole?

the cotter key on my old tractor final broke off last year and I would like to replace it.

I made a few feeble attempts at inserting one from the bottom, but so far, nothing has worked.

just asking if anyone ever did this and how you did it.

Thanks,

This weep hole remaining open on old tractors like mine, that weep a bit of oil, is a must to keep oil off the clutch.

Should be no problem replacing the cotter pin from inside after the plate is off. Hole is large enough for PTO clutch screw adjustment, getting to the pin is not hard but small hands would make it easier..

thanks,
when its cooler, will give it a go.,

this key being gone has bother me as I got the tractor stuck one time and plugged up the hole with mud and did not run in any tall grass weeds for a while.

it does leak some from the transmission as I used to try and keep it at the full mark
now, I keep it at the 1/2 mark so it drips very little.

the oil built up inside the sump and ruined the clutch,

bad for me as its an older tractor 1957, TO35 with duel clutch.
was hard for me to find someone who wanted to tackle the older model or knew what he was doing,

Might try to fish a bent wire up through the hole and out the inspection hole, tape a cotter pin to the wire, pull it into the hole.

I thought about doing it that way but my hands are to big and the hole is just on the backside of something that sticks up high and trying to do it this way wouldn't work for me. I did not think of the way Steve explained it so I might try that way some day. Thanks Steve!

There is another solution, use what is called a blind cotter pin. It is designed to be inserted in the hole, then a light hammer blow spreads the ends slightly, enough to prevent the pin from coming back out. It is designed for these applications where the ends are not acessable. These pins are identified by their slight difference in shape, the eye has one straight side and one of the ends has a bend at the tip.

How about one of these Ford door panel clips ?

You may have to alter it some so it would spin, flatten out the hook end so a big weed wouldn't jerk the clip out ????

Heck, you could bend one up from some high tensile electric fence wire with a couple pair of pliers.

One source for the clip

Yes, I have personally done this on my MF65. I have big hands and I was able feed it in. The string idea is also a good one.
