I went back to the 35 to check for spark. I pulled the spark wire on the plug closest to the steering wheel, hit the starter and the engine coughed. what the heck I says. so I turned on the fuel, pulled the choke and with the spark wire still off the plug the engine fired up. put the plug back on and she's purring like a kitten in the garage.

some one please explain that.

many thanks.

Really? That easy one explained? A larger air gap forces the coil to develop more voltage to jump the air gap.
Next time you flood the engine, pull the coil wire slightly out and get a hotter spark to start the engine with. After it runs and clears out, shut it down and properly reconnect the coil wire.

It may have been something simple like the carbon contact in the distributor cap not connecting properly . Pulling a lead out usually disturbs the cap a little , maybe just enough to re connect what had parted .

Still with the loose wire you increase the voltage output out of the coil. Pulling the wire out on a flooded engine will generally help it start.
