My generator has died and is not rebuildable. Anyone bought one off eBay? They are advertised for about $149.00. Found one in the Midwest for $379.00 plus $100 core deposit. Don't want to pay that, would convert it to 12v with alternator first. Would like to keep it original if possible. Thanks for any information.......

So, what is not rebuildable on yours? It would have to be really bad to not be enough left to McGuiver something back together out of the bone pile!

I rebuilt mine. Armature was $63 and fields $46. Didn't need fields replaced anyway. Works great. No one in local shops wants to work on generators. Depends on what your doing --show or working tractor. Most of the time it's just the armature or brushes. The one I bought had the end for tack drive.

Where are you located? I have several shops near me in northern Indiana who have rebuilt 4 or 5 for me. One was really rusted badly but it didn't bother them to fix them.

You can convert to a 6volt pos ground one wire alternator easily. About $135. Quality power dot com. Add the bracket. Put an 8 volt on my TO30 years ago, wonderful.

I agree with those that say it must be really bad that it can't be rebuilt. Ask around some other friends and see where they take theirs to be rebuilt. My local rebuilding shop showed me where the one on my TO 35 had water get in it during the winter and froze, before it was mine, he rebuilt it works great. Which tractor do you have?

Sounds like the shop you use is inexperienced and didn't want to muck around with a 60+ year old tractor generator. Since original parts are much better than the new Cheena made junk, I'd find a shop that will rebuild it or someone on this board who will. Go to the FENA web site and ask Bob Sybrandy, the technical engineer for them. Is it a DELCO?

(reply to post at 10:39:29 I have a TEA-2085 Fergie that the generator shorted out and not worth trying to rebuild. I bought a new 12 volt generator through a Sparex dealer today for $159.00 Canadian. Installed it , polarized it and it works great. I'm not sure if there would be a dealer for Sparex parts in your area. Google it on the internet to check it out.

Atlantic & Southern in Lake City, GA can order AGCO and Sparex parts. I think they added these lines fairly recently so you might have to hold their hands. Used to be a site on flea-bay named triodiode that sold all sorts of generator and starter parts reasonably. I don't know if they are still there. I got a nose cone and brush set for my starter from them.

Triodiode is still there. Wayne is a good guy. I found springs for my TO-30 starter there.
Give them a try for electrical parts. You can email Wayne with any questions for parts.
