Water pump failures are usually seen as:

Loose bearings, rattling, wobbling fan/pulley, loose feel when you try to move the fan by hand. In rare occasions the bearings can lock up, stop the pump from turning. Running a pump with bad bearings can cause the shaft to break!

Leaking out the weep hole, a sign of a bad seal. May or may not be associated with loose bearings. May leak intermittently.

Pump stops pumping. This is an extremely rare condition. The impeller can slip, fall off, rust away and cause the pump to stop pumping or reduce the flow. But this is very, very rare. Removing and inspecting the impeller will verify if that is the problem.

If bearing is bad it will sometimes make a noise. It has a weep hole in bottom of housing and water will drip. Has thermostat in top hose.

Dripping coolant means the seal and/or bearing is bad. Sometimes they wi;; also squeal. Yest the TE20 has a thermostat and it should be located in the upper rad hose.

If you have to replace your water pump, inspect the replacement very carefully or better yet, order a rebuilt OEM one from cardone.com. See my post on replacement water pumps below.
