Governor shaft end play

I can insert a 3/16" drill bit between the cover and the governor lever. Is this too much? If it is, I can slide the lever down the shaft and drill another hole for the cotter pin. Thanks for the help.

I don't think it would be a problem. But I don't have my manual here to see what might be causing it.
As long as the governor is working, and it's not leaking oil it shouldn't be a problem. Instead of drilling another hole, would it be easier to add a couple
washers?

I wound up sliding the lever down and drilling a new hole in the shaft. My concern was that the governor wouldn't work right because the lever could move back and forth on the bumper spring. I'm trying to be proactive and prevent problems, hope it worked. :D
