T0-20 Ignition Coil, 12 Volt

My TO-20 was converted to 12v prior to my purchase. I'd liek to replace the Ignition Coil, anything I should know about or consider? or will any 12v coil do?

The simplest way to replace the coil is to go with a 3 ohm coil, like a Napa IC14. This coil needs no
resistor. But, you need to look to see if there is a resistor on there now, if there is, remove it.

That will clean everything up, one less thing to go wrong, and you know it is right.

Ok, just checked mine.. ran up and down the lines and I don't see a resistor anywhere. It is a Delco Remy I/C. Battery is definitely a 12v and I do have an alternator.

A sure way to determine if there is a resistor is to check the voltage at the + terminal of the coil. With
the points closed, (or the - terminal grounded), the voltage will be battery voltage without a resistor, or
in the 6 to 9 volt range with a resistor.

From the picture, looks like it's about time for a new set of wires. Are you having ignition problems?

It has a slight miss while running so plugs, caps and wires are on the list.
When it gets warm it will start lugging, so I've drained the carb, sediment bowl and added a fuel filter.. still lugging so I'm suspecting ignition/electrical. Replacing the coil and wires first and we'll see where that leads me.

Thanks for all the help guys.. New coil, new wire.. same old problem. (But it is running smoother).. I think I've narrowed it to the fuel sediment bowl device.. with my recently installed inline clear fuel filter.. I'm seeing it run dry.. pulled apart the bowl.. it had a screen and paper gasket in it.. screen was clogged pretty bad and the paper/felt gasket is coming apart. Working on that issue now
