my "TG" 35 has not been run for a couple of years and I decided it is time to get it running. naturally the battery is way dead. my six volt charger charges at a rate of 15 amps. (according to manual) how long is too long to let the charger on the battery???

thanks!

I charge the battery until the LEAD ACID SOLUTION is 12.75>13.00 specific gravity. I now have a BATTERY TENDER on several batteries. They charge at an out put of .75 amps....available in both 6 volt and 12 Volt.....power consumption is so little not worth calulating

The battery you have is most likely beyond redemption , but then miracles do occur .
Charging a battery is a little like filling a bucket . If you have a four gallon bucket and a tap that flows at one gallon a minute then of course it will take four minutes to fill .
A decent battery for automotive use is usually around 40 amp hours , to ' fill ' it up with a 4 amp hour charger will correspondingly take ten hours .
Of course there are variations to this in terms of the charge left in the battery , increased resistance from sulphated plates and low electrolyte levels , but it is a decent starting point .
Overcharging will only boil the electrolyte .

I have tried this trick in the past with some results .
Discharge the battery completely with a light bulb , make sure it is really flat . Cover the top with a towel and thump the battery bottom down several times heavily onto the work bench to shake loose particles off the plates into the bottom of the case . Top up the electrolyte and charge up in the normal way [u:a4a61835ef]but with the polarity reversed [/u:a4a61835ef].
Discharge the battery completely again , make sure it is really flat , then charge up [u:a4a61835ef]with the polarity the correct way [/u:a4a61835ef].

If this doesn't work take the battery to the recycle depot .
