Gave the Ferguson a workout

Started on the pad for my new shop foundation this weekend. Had to excavate down about a foot and fill with 40 loads of select fill. My future brother-in-law offered to bring his dozer over and knock it out. I figured that would get it done in a hurry and compact it down real good. He shows up with this mini dozer. He spent over half the day and only got down about 5-6 inches. That thing can only push about a yard of loose dirt without losing traction. The ground is pretty hard and dry and he couldn't get the blade to dig in. So I hopped on the TO-35 and hooked up the 5-1/2 foot box blade to do some scarifying to break it up for him. Went a lot faster. I think I was moving more dirt than he was and I was moving at twice his speed. The second half only took about 2 hours. FYI.....don't waste your money on one of those little dozers. His is a Komatsu D21P.

You...uh, could ask him...
"What's that thing s'pose to be when it grows up?"
"Does it do anything, other than look pretty?
"You paid how much?, Oh! HE paid YOU!"
"Ya' know, I could sell you something at less money that does twice as much"
"Tell ya' what. We can trade. That machine plus 5 grand and you can get a real machine."
"Is there a place to scratch off the paint to find the Prius sticker?"
"Does it always make that painful straining sound?"
"Is that leak suppose to be there?"
"Maybe it need's a diaper."

could have done that ....but he did come down and help out for free and he has other equipment I might need in the future. It was kinda funny that he had to stop and let it cool down every couple of hours but the ferguson kept going. I can't see it's any better than a bobcat/ skid steer.

Had a similar problem with a 450 JD dozer operator I hired to scrape out my pond. Wound up hooking up my 7' Woods blade on the
back of my 1955 TO 35 and pulled out his dirt piles. He was amazed at how much dirt that TO 35 could pull up a 35 degree slope.
Good Luck
