Found these in my oil pan. I have no idea what they are. They are not round. Have any ideas? It's from my 1955 TO35.

I think it my not belong to this tractor this was the first oil change that I have done on the tractor. Was checking for sludge and felt it. retrieved it with a magnet. have been checking the parts book and can't match with any parts they show. Thanks Randy

Governor parts would be my guess. The oil pan catches the parts when a Ford governor goes bad. I'm sure they are from your engine somewhere.

I agree, governor parts, part of the ball cage. Look up governor parts under engine parts, you'll see a picture. They break off, fall into the pan. If it's not left over from a previous repair, might be a good idea to look into it. Next time one might run through the timing gears!

So now that we found the problem. How hard will it be to fix. does the front pulley come 0ff hard I will need all the advice I can get. thanks Randy

There are several post here with better detailed pictures.

Governor exploded

Governor carnage

and the best is

Object in the oil pan on Sept 21, 2014

These may help you understand what happened and what it really looks like.

(wish I know how to copy a link to a post)

Not that difficult, yes the front pulley needs to come off, disconnect the carb and governor linkage remove the front cover. The governor is on the front of the cam gear. You'll need a governor kit and front cover gasket set, get them on this site.

Thanks steve@advance, Am wondering how you hold the pulley when taking the crank nut off? I am fearful of breaking the pulley.
Thanks for the support, this information really helps.

Easiest way is to lock the engine. If the brakes are good, put it in high gear, have an assistant hold the brake, loosen the bolt. Or pull the starter, hold the flywheel with a big screwdriver or tire tool. Just be sure to go back tight with it. Don't have the manual with me, but it needs to be pretty tight, thinking around 100ft lbs. I can look it up Monday.

Well... Couldn't find the torque on the pulley bolt, 100 lbs. might be to much, probably around 75 be better. Just be sure to get it tight! If the pulley ever comes loose, it will wallow the pulley, taper the crank, and never stay tight again.
