FERGUSON TEA / TE ENGINE SWAP.

So I am looking at buying a '52 ferguson
Te20 with a continental engine. The engine
in this tractor has seen better days and is
tired and Smokes a lot. I have a strong,
good running standard engine out of a '53
Tea20 and was wondering if I could just
swap the continental for the standard in
the '52? Or would it be easier to just
rebuild the continental? Thanks!
Jamie.

I think, but don't know for sure, that it will work. Have a good stare at the rear of the Standard engine (is it already disconnected from its transmission?) and see if the bolt holes will line up with the TE20 tranny.
I believe the service manuals don't differentiate between the TE and the TEA when discussing things from the transmission back.

It isn't as hard as it seems to split the tractor, so I think it's worth a try. If you split it and it won't work, you will then have a chance to deal with the rear seal on the Continental, and check out the clutch while you're in there too.

The holes fore and aft will all bolt up, but as you say, is the Z120 rebuildable? If so, it isn't that hard or expensive to rebuild, and if the Standard is half worn out already... while it's all in pieces on the ground... check out both options.

I bought a TEA20 with a Continental 120 installed, and learned a few things.
The Standard is from 1 to 1.5 inches longer. The difference is in a spacer
welded to the front axle support. The flywheels don't interchange without
re-drilling. You might need the clutch from the Standard as well as the
starter bendix. I'd be a little worried about the fan shroud.

I am attempting to install a Perkins diesel in mine.
