1952 TO30 3pt lift goes up on its own.

A couple of weeks ago, when I was mowing the field, the mow deck went to the fully up position on its own. I can use the control lever to get it to go down, but I have to manually hold it there. If I don't hold it, the lever moves to the lift position and the lift goes up.

Is there some sort of a friction plate or nut on the control arm that needs to be adjusted, or is there a problem with the 3pt lift that needs to be addressed?

If the lift works fine if you manually hold the quadrant lever in whatever position you want it to be (i.e. the lever moves on it's own and that in turn makes the lift move) then I suspect you may just need to adjust or replace the friction setup to hold the lever in place.

There is a friction disk and a nut to adjust the pressure on it. I have tried to attach a picture showing this.

(This was originally a picture of my position control setup, so it's not quite the ideal angle. But maybe it will answer your question.)

Using Jeremys picture below the word HERE is a locking tab. Pull the tab up above the lever then put the lever where you want it. Then put the locking tab just on the top side of the lever and tighten wing nut that should keep the lever from raising by itself. However you can raise the lever just by grabbing the lever and pulling it towards your right leg then pull lever up past the locking tab. This way your part on the three point is always at the same height when you have the lever under the locking tab.

Thank you very much for the info, I will check it out this weekend and see if I can get it adjusted. My dry field really needs to be mowed!
