to-35 oil pressure

now that I got my problem child running I installed a new oil pressure gauge this morning. at start up it has 20psi and when warm dips to 18psi. the eng. runs fairly quiet. I can detect a faint "knock" when putting a load on the engine. (driving up hill)

any worries here? tractor will be mostly a yard ornament.

thanks.

My old TO35 runs better and holds better oil pressure on diesel oil, I run shell 15w40 diesel oil.

Also, you might drain one quart of your current oil and add back one quart of Lucas oil stabilizer.

I also run non ethanol gas, that might make a difference.

you mean pinging? no it is not that. this engine actually runs smoother and quieter than a couple of my other 35's with less hours. this does smoke a little though.

According to the IT manual, 20-30 PSI at 2200 RPM, minimum 15 PSI at idle. I'm assuming this is at normal operating temp, didn't find an oil weight recommendation, probably would have been straight 30.

So you're in range, I've seen them run a lot lower for a long time.

Several things the knock could be, under load could be spark knock. Easy enough to back of the timing a little, see what happens. Could be a loose piston skirt, wrist pin... Those will go forever without a problem, especially what you're doing with it.

Listen for the knock and remove one spark plug lead at a time . If it is a bearing then the knock will soften or go away when the piston is not firing . You can hear better with your ear against a long screwdriver or metal rod placed against each cylinder's block wall .
I have a light knock in one of my tractors , turns out that the FE35 gudgeon pins are prone to this and cause very little trouble .

"gudgeon pins"

I was watching the second marigold hotel movie last night and in it a guy needed his scooter fixed. he mentioned he thought it might be the "gudgeon pins". never have I heard the terminology before and now I hear it twice in the same week.
