engine and hydralic casting numbers

Yesterday I was washing down the 1955 to TO35 ( thats what the plate on the dash board states) and I notice that the casting on the hydralic side is " H 30-5" which is supposed to mean August 30 1955. On the engine block it is "J 28-8" which is to mean September 28 1958. The 8 looks like the number 8 but not fully. Am I correct in my translation and if so when I order parts for the engine, tune up, filter etc, do I tell them I have a 1958? Ther serial number on the dashboard plate represents a 1955. Any thoughts?

Casting on side is the date which usually means the year of the tractor. Could have been built a few weeks or months after. I've never heard anyone saying the date on engine. Maybe Richard L will know. If your hood has two buttons to open hood it is a 55. The 58 had only one knob to unscrew to open hood. It could be a 55 with a 58 hood. Who know what someone has done. I would go with the casting date on side. It should match year of serial tag.

There are no buttons to open the hood. Must have been removed by previous owners. Its a 12 volt system negative ground. The 1955 casting is on the side of the hydralic section near the PTO shifter. The engine block has the 1958 casting. Im thinkng the previous owner or owners had changed things over the years. They even did away with the ignition switch and added some hand held remote starter. Where the ignition switch was is now an a on/off toggle switch. I dont have any problems with it. The amchine runs fine but was just curious about the casting dates. I got the casting info from the Ferguson Enthusiast site

Show us a pic of the serial number plate on the dash. That is when the tractor was assembled. Casting marks will drive you nuts. A casting could be sitting on a shelf for 5 or 10 years before it is pulled out and used to make a sub assembly.. that could hang around a corner for another few months. I figure it was finished when the dealer delivered it... no mater when that was...

Yes it has the dual shifter H and L 3 low 3 high and 2 reverse. The serial number on the dashboard plate is 163305. The are no letters in front of the numbers as some others have leaving me to believe its an early 1955, The Engine number on the engine plate is 623101. I think I may be reading too much into all these numbers. For that matter I have a 1955 TO35 deluxe and I guess I'll leave it a that for now. Sometimes a little knowledge is a terrible thing. :D

Here is a pic o fthe dash plate and a pixs of the tractor. I just cleaned it up a bit and added a little paint with a foam brush just to make it look clean, and a little wax. oops upload didnt work
