The oil filter debate

Oil filters for the TO20 and TO30 have been argued to death. I took this pic tonight when I was changing the oil in my TO20. I use Agco filters, my second choice would a Wix, but I wanted some who don't use Agco filters to look at the quality construction. They put Frams to shame. If you look closely you can see that the filtering media isn't paper but more like a really fine gauze.

Nice looking filter, Jason.

Do you have an AGCO dealer nearby, or can you order AGCO parts online?

I"m looking for a few genuine AGCO parts for my TO-20, one of them being the pivot pin that you posted a photo of a while back.

I do have an Agco dealer about 1 mile from me, the main mechanic there and owner is 75 and still works everyday. He knows the old Fergusons and the 100 and 200 series Masseys inside and out. I like going there because they stock a lot of parts for the old Fergusons. They even still have the old paper catalogs from when Massey bought out Ferguson.I have found a couple of online dealers that will ship to you. I think I have them bookmarked on the computer at work. Online Agco parts dealers aren't as easy to find as is Deere,CIH, or New Holland. Most of the Agco parts I have bought have been excellent quality and usually not priced much more than a lot of the aftermarket stuff.

Jason, if you don"t mind, please drop me an e-mail with the names of the online sellers of OEM AGCO/Ferguson parts - thanks!

One thing I did find about four years ago I needed a front axle pin for a TO 30 so I ordered it from my MF dealer. If I remember correctly it was right in the $80-85 range. The aftermarkets were running around the $45 range. I do not know if there was much difference between the two as I never saw the aftermarket. I am happy with the one I got. Now I need a new one for my TO 35 so I will go to another MF dealer and see what their prices are like. Sorry not trying to steal the thread on oil filters.

Wow...that's high for the pin Richard. I only paid like $42.00 dollars for the Agco pin and the A&I pin from this site was $35.00, and that was just a few months ago.

Jason, your AGCO filter has the rubber grommet on the end, similar to the Baldwin filter that I posted a photo of a few weeks ago (it's on the right):

Does that rubber part provide a seal when the filter is installed?

The WIX filter, on the left in my photo, doesn't have the rubber piece on the end.

I always thought they were supposed to have a rubber seal on each end. That Baldwin looks identical to the Fram C153 I have seen before. I have a Wix Filter that came out of an extra engine I bought. I'm going to look at it and see if it had a grommet on each end.

s Monk says, I could be wrong now, but.........it looks to me like both filters have a black rubber which would seal to the center post. It is just implemented differently, such that the Baldwin has rubber showing on the upper surface (not necessary to seal to center post).

Jason, needless to say I have changed from a dealer about an hour south of me to a dealer an hour north of me. I can see a whole lot of difference between the two dealerships. I am much happier now.

(I'll revive an old thread on this topic, rather than start a new one.)
I took Jason's advice, and ordered a genuine AGCO oil filter (on the right) for my TO-20. The Baldwin P40 is on the left:

As Jason noted, the AGCO filter is built like a tank, with metal inside and out.
The main body of the AGCO is a little larger than the Baldwin, but the rubber seals on the end of the filter are a little different, such that the AGCO is a little shorter overall. That may make installing the filter cover a little easier.
