Push button to shifter starter

My TO-30 has been altered to a push button on the dash instead of using the shifter. I'd like to convert it back to the shifter if it's not to much of a hassle. Can it be done without to much trouble?

You got a manual? The button is for sale on here, and if the linkage from the lever to the now upside down button are good, you just refer to the manual as to how to slide it around before tightening the bolts. It is the safest system at the time, or now really, well worth using again.

I don't have a manual. I have a button and it works fine, I was just wanting to revert back to the shifter. No real reason, Just want to restore it a bit. I'm not sure where the wires are supposed to go to utilize it.

Possibly these shall assist you?

My TO30 had a solenoid and button so I decided to change it also. Unfortunately, someone along the way had sawed off the shift rod and plugged the hole in the transmission. I already had the tractor split so I found a $75 transmission and robbed it of the shift rod and bought a new seal. The old switch was fine and still works as it should. I kept the tranny for parts which seem to get scarcer every year.

My understanding is that the majority of shifter/starter switches that were modified with push buttons only needed adjustment to work properly, but the owners didn't realize that. Like Tony said, it is a safe, foolproof system as it only starts in neutral.

Do you have to split it to fix it? I'm looking at the hole right under the battery with a plate over it. I'm not sure where the leads go into the transmission.

Actually had a dumb mistake the other day and hit hte starter while in gear. First time I've made a mistake like that in 10+ years, but it does happen from time to time.

You won't have to split it if the linkage is still in place and undamaged. I was replacing the clutch and rebuilding the hydraulics so I had everything already apart. If the linkage has separated you may be able to fish it out. Otherwise, you could remove the steering box (a hassle but better than splitting).
