looks like all it took to fix the rough running and stalling was a new condenser! put new one in and the eng. runs smoooooooooooooth.

btw: what does a condenser do?

now onto the leaking pwr steering hose. this is new as of this morning.

'tis really a capacitor.
From Wikipedia 'cause it's easier to cut & paste than to type it--"A capacitor ([b:a48b1f84da]originally known as a condenser[/b:a48b1f84da]) is a passive two-terminal electrical component used to store energy electrostatically in an electric field."
"When an inductive circuit is opened, the current through the inductance collapses quickly, creating a large voltage across the open circuit of the switch or relay. If the inductance is large enough, the energy will generate a spark, causing the contact points to oxidize, deteriorate, or sometimes weld together, or destroying a solid-state switch. A snubber capacitor across the newly opened circuit creates a path for this impulse to bypass the contact points, thereby preserving their life; these were commonly found in contact breaker ignition systems, for instance."
"The capacitor has two functions. Its main function is to form a series resonant circuit with the ignition coil. During resonance, energy is repeatedly transferred to the secondary side until the energy is exhausted.[2] As a result of this resonance the duration of the spark is sustained and so implements a good flame front in the air/fuel mixture. The capacitor, by default minimizes arcing at the contacts at the point of opening."
When the condenser goes bad, the coil isn't able to create a consistent powerful spark and the motor runs poorly, if at all.
