Equipment: TO35 tractor, pto driven post hole digger.

Problem: Freeing a stuck post hole digger auger.

Today, a guy told me you can do the following to get a stuck post hole digger auger
freed up.

1. Jack up one rear wheel off the ground. Lock the brake on the other wheel.
2. Place the PTO lever in ground position
3. Place the gear lever in reverse, Let out clutch, he said the PTO will run backwards
and will unscrew the auger out of the ground!!!!!

Anyone know if this method would work???????
 
Should work OK. Just stay clear of the wheel that is jacked up, as it will be spining in reverse. Did this with a Massey Ferguson 35.

I hope I never have to find out if the method works.

I try to never get the auger stuck that bad, but I have had to back it up a few times with a large pipe wrench.

Yep. Just don't get it stuck in the first place huh?
A couple years ago the TO30- cause the simple lever seemed to react faster, got the 'tree ball' size auger stuck on a root a few feet down. The Cockshutt and loader had to try pull it straight up by the bull ring. Then we needed the 65 and an extra set of hands... Then things went west...
Monday morning the teacher asks kids 'So what did you do this weekend?' Goober explained it all in detail... he said everytime he went on, she'd say 'oh my goodness!'.... when she said 'so you have 3 tractors? oh my goodness!' little rat fink says 'oh we got 12 or 13 tractors'... 'oh my goodness'.... when I heard about this, I thought.... . time to clean the house and yard, cause either child protective people or the health department will be here soon...
Moral of the story is just don't get it stuck in the first place...
 
Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. It works great. :D

If you're on slick grass, you can just lock up one brake and spin the other tire in reverse.
