Changing to electronic ignition

Thinking of changing to electronic ignition instead of a regular tune-up which I see is coming soon. I have an early model 1955 TO35 12volt with generator and was wondering is there much to it. Is it just as simple just changing the inside of the distributor parts.

It is a very quick and easy job. Follow the instructions and you will have no problem. Put a Petronix on mt TO 30 and have no regrets.

Simpler than putting in a tune up kit because there is no setup involved. Just put the parts in place and connect the wires, no adjustment necessary. Works like a charm too!

If it were mine I would be sure the system is converted to negative ground, then order the negative ground Pertronix. That way if you ever change to alternator which is negative ground you won't have to change the ignition.

Generator can be polarized to work either polarity, unless modified an alternator is negative ground.

I used to be a proponent of the Pertronix system, but I had reliability issues with this product. Their customer service was excellent but the basic reliability of the system left a lot to be desired from my point of view. My first unit lasted 5 years and the module failed. I bought a replacement module and it lasted about 7 months and it was replaced under warranty. I never installed the replacement, instead installing the original point system. The system used on our cars seems to last forever and I had a mean time between failures of < 3 years with Pertronix! At ~$65 for the module replacement off warranty, that isn"t a good value in my opinion.

My tractor is negative ground. I looked at the part on this site and it states for use with delco distributor. How can I tell if mine is a Delco?
