I have a aluminum fuel tank that has a crack on edge and I need to have it welded. Local welder don't know if he wants to weld it. Has no fuel in it for a short time. I've had them welded before. Anyone have any tips before we start on it?
Thanks

One of these days I got to get on your will... Millisa don't want all that grey $4!7....

Can't JB weld do that? However ya do it, it all got to be clean and dry... aluminum welding is like flying a plane.. you aren't allowed any mistakes...

I learned how to repair tanks when working for the MF dealer, we just used a small air pressure regulator from the compressor and blow into the empty tank while the torch was used, and after brazing or soldering until the tank was cool. Main thing is keep the air moving, a lean mixture won't go boom. Repaired both gas and diesel tanks, also need to use the same rod as used before, if brazed use brazing rod. If solder then use acid core solder..

Steve, that reply got me to laughing about the David Letterman show, I think his last show had the Top Ten most famous last words. I sure your idea would work just fine. If anyone could find and post the link to the show it is a good laugh.

I have welded gas tanks. I piped a hose from a running vehicle into the tank to displace the oxygen and vapors. NO problem........
