Won't start when warm and fuel less than full

The guy before me replaced the fuel tank, and now if you stop, and go to start any time sooner than 30 minutes, and the tank is any less than full, it won't restart. In the morning it fires right up even with a half tank. I shut off the fuel after running it every time without fail.

I don't know, I don't know much about these tractors. It's a TO-30. I checked the existing route of the fuel line, and while it seems high for a gravity feed, it shouldn't be to high to stop flow at a half tank.

If it's not vapor lock, you might consider the coil. Maybe by the time you get the gas can and top it off, the coil has cooled off enough to work again. Have you checked for spark when it wouldn't start?

There is a drain plug in the bottom of the carb. Take the necessary wrench with you, be ready to quickly pull the plug when it won't run. Should get a full flow of fuel, then slow as the bowl empties and only what gets through the needle valve will be coming through. It should still flow a stream, not slow to a drip of stop all together. You can catch what comes out in a clean glass, see what the fuel looks like, cloudy, water, trash...

It does sound like vapor lock. Common causes are missing heat shield, steel fuel line replaced with copper tubing, line routed too close to the exhaust manifold.

My old TO35 has a heat shield that is mounted just above the exhaust manifold, it is
there to keep the heat off the gas tank.

Many times these are throw away after a repair as they are a pain to reinstall.

The fuel tank is new, carb was rebuilt, and yes, the fuel line is a combination of copper and rubber hose to get to the carb. The carb being on the wrong side keeps throwing me for a loop though.

Good story:

Much Like the problem of the vented gas cap getting stopped up, the tractor dies after a while, will not restart.

But after about an hour or so it will restart, after air bleeds back into the tank.

You can buy steel automotive brake line at the auto supply. Not sure of the length, but you can fashion a
piece of wire where you want to run the line, straighten it out and get a measurement. You'll need 5/16"
tubing, comes with the fittings already flared on, soft and easy to bend without kinking.

This issue is persisting. It's not vapor lock from the gas tank, but it sort of sounds like it. It won't restart after an hour, it has to be stone cold. I've messed with the fuel line, gas tank, cap, and have had no luck yet.
