I have a 1949 Ferguson to20. I recently rebuilt the hydraulic pump, and when I engage the pto and lift the lever, nothing happens - not a wiggle or anything. I have not used tractor for over 5 years, but before it would either be all the way up or all the way down then it just quit. Any ideas what might be wrong? I appreciate any input!

A couple of things come to mind: either the control valve slipped out of the fork or the system is air bound. You can check the first by taking the right side port hole cover off and (with the tractor off) evaluating the movement of the control fork and the valve. If everything moves as it should, crank the tractor, engage the PTO, and look for movement of the oil around the pump. If oil is moving either something around or in the pump is open. If no oil is moving, either the system is plugged or the pump is not primed (i.e., full of air). If the control valve doesn't move as it should when you move the quadrant lever, you may only need to adjust the quadrant forward or back to engage the fork. Did you bench test the pump before installing it? The valves can be a little confusing and it is possible to get them wrong or leave something out.

Good luck and you might search the archives here for a fuller understanding of what to try.

I'm sure you aren't making the same mistakes I made, but make sure your foot is off the clutch! I feel like an idiot every time I make that mistake.
