Max weight on 3pt

Putting together a weight box, don't want to break anything. How much weight can I put in a 55gal drum?bwhat can it lift? It's a 51 to-30.

Usually if the lift is in good shape and no internal leaks it will pick up around 800lbs although you may have trouble keeping the front end down. It is not uncommon for them to pick up more than that if the front end has weight on it or the front tires are loaded with ballast or have wheel weights on them.

I have a front end loader, and with a big bucket of dirt, steering becomes a challenge. Just the rear grader blade doesnt do much for a counter weight so I was building one, but wasn't sure how much I could Put on it without risking breakage.

I have a six foot Linbach disk with extra weight--4 pieces of 4" x 36" x 3/4" steel plates--and it pick the front up. With three it's fine.

im just looking to make steering easier with a full load. I need to address the steering box gears as well, I'm sure some ease could be gotten there as well with fresh oil.

My 202 (industrial version of a TO35) came with power steering from the factory. Somewhere along the way someone removed the steering cylinders and hoses etc. so it became a manual steering tractor. It has a front end loader and a backhoe hanging off the back. Even with all that counter weight on the back, maneuvering with a bucket full of anything was a huge challenge. It was also very hard on steering parts. The ONLY solution is power steering. You may gain a little with weight on the back but if a 220 backhoe on it's own frame (not on the 3pt) isn't enough, a weight box on the 3pt likely won't help enough either. I'm not sure the exact weight of the backhoe but I'm pretty sure it's more than 800lbs.

FJ; If you fill the barrel with water, it works out to 8.0lbs/gal X55 Gal= 440 lbs. Well within the limits of the lift on that
machine!

I didn't know it was possible to add PS with the way it was set up. That would be my first choice. I will look around for a power steering pump for it. It has the arms on the side of the gear box, one goes forward, one reverse, when you turn either way. It's not linked at the front like others I've seen so I thought it wasn't realistically possible to add.

The TO30 never had power steering (far as I know) but there is a guy by the name of Roland Jackson who designs and builds kits for pretty much any machine. If you google that name you should find his site.
