leveller box and slasher

Hi All.

Had the old girl out for a slash the other day!

Its a 4 foot slasher with no wheels just box frame (as you see in australia). The frame edges behind the wheels are sitting to low and digging into the ground.

I know to have the rear higher than the front. I have played with top link to change it but still drags. Thinking of using chains to lift the front up, or should you be able to do this with the arms, ( tea20) so draft control).

Also the levelling box will only adj to just below the level mark. I have unwound it, cleaned out the gunk on the threads and grease it.

I think it needs cleanning out as it will not wind all the way in. Does the thread seperate from the arms to clean it out?

Also read that people use a chain instead of a top link so the slasher wil not dig in when on uneven ground as it is not ridge

Cheers Chaps

Sounds like you need one of these ,
http://www.fergy.com.au/positioncontrol.htm

This is an Australian invention , very neat , fairly economical and very effective . I have one fitted to my TED20 , I would go as far as to say they are so good that they should be compulsory . Loads can be positioned at very low heights to maintain a low centre of gravity and reduce the danger of roll over or flipping .

Otherwise these is " Marlowes Method '' of adjusting , but your draught control must be working very well for this to be effective .

Yep bought one fitted and used one of those positioners on the last Fergie I was involved with. They are good.

May need to put on the brain bucket and come up with a dig version.

pcp,

go to: leveler chains and check out all you can find.
go to n tractor site, they have a great description on how to build a set, they work great for a tractor, that you can not set and hold a constant 3 pt arm level.

also using a chain as the top link is a good thing, if you have any uneven ground, you need flexibility in the top link area. I have a moving top hitch coupler on my slasher.

question: why would you not want a rear wheel, to help the old tractor support the weight of the slasher?????????
most all cutters I have seen have rear wheels, unless its been torn off.

stay safe, chain saws and cutters are about the two most dangerous tools around your farm stead.

I would have made you a copy of the check chains description on the n ## site, but they will not allow any copies????????????????
