Carb setting after cleaning

I disassembled my carb and cleaned it. Put it back together. Book says start with main jet open 1-1/4 turns and air 7/8 turn. Had it running before the clean but doesn't start now. Is that the correct main jet setting?

It's a Marvel-Schebler, but I found one of the problems. I'm not getting any gas to the carb. GRRRRR!!! I have a new fuel line because I buggered the threads on the fitting and I had gas before I took the carb apart. I learned long ago if you don't know anything about electrical systems or carburetors, leave 'em alone! I guess I need to learn the lesson again. Can you put the float in upside down? It seemed like the float pin came out really hard. Is that normal?

Don't let it whip you! The only way to learn is ask and do it!

Have you determined if gas is making it to the carb? Loosen the line, see if fuel flows, if not work back to the tank, see where you have fuel, where you don't.

If there is fuel to the carb, open it back up, see what's wrong. With the bowl off, turn the top part upside down, look at the float, see how it works... If it's assembled wrong, it will be obvious.

Look for the old fuel stain line across the float. With the needle and seat in, and the float and pin in, all assembled, still holding it upside down, that stain should be roughly parallel with the gasket surface. If not, bend the little tab that pushes the needle into the seat until it sits level. Sounds gross, (but not fatal), but you can blow into the fuel inlet fitting while working the float up and down. You should be able to feel the seat working as air passes by the needle valve, then stops when the valve closes.

There may also be a screen in the inlet fitting, be sure it is clean.
