F40 abrubtly stopped moving?

Tractor runs and goes into gear. However, no locomotion. Appears to be issue between transmission and rear end? I was pulling out my truck that was stuck in the mud, when this happend. So under load when this happend.

Anythoughts it is still stuck in field i need to get help pulling it back to shed.

Place the PTO shift in ground drive, see if tractor can be moved when turning the PTO shaft. If it moves rear axles are OK, but safety coupling may have sheared at the undercut groove. May have also moved forward IF the cotter pin has come out allowing the coupler to move forward. If all is well with the coupler then the transmission drive failure is possible too..

Thanks, in your opinion is this a repair that the average joe can do on his own? Once i get it back dragged to my shed i can crack it open.

Possibly yes, if you have a manual. And a handy friend. If it is the spline as mentioned earlier; the top of the tranny has to come straight up, with either the muscles of 4 arms or a rope hoist/chain fall, IF it is back there. A more complicated job if it is the clutch, you'll need to split the tractor. Either way, a gear head buddy and a manual, and a bunch of the right tools,,,, good luck.
