transmission case cotter key replacement

The upside down cotter key, sticking out of the bottom of the transmission case on my
old TO35 has finally pasted on.

Can I replace the cotter key by removing the clutch inspection plate, located directly
below the clutch assembly. Anyone ever replaced the cotter key this way?

Thanks,

Had my inspection cover off a few weeks ago to remove some bits of starter drive gear (another story) and I stuck my hand back there just to get an idea and I think it would be possible with the right set of pliers. I have a long set of locking forceps with a curve on the end, I think they would be perfect for the job.

A knowledgable gent here on this forum suggested a while ago to use a cotter pin just slightly larger than the hole opening and insert the eyelet end in the hole and then bend the legs so it doesn't push inside. Your going to have to wiggle it to get it in but works like a charm.

I know you can on a TO20, and, if you're splitting the tractor, the pin needs to be removed. It will hang up on the flywheel when you're pulling the motor out or putting it back in.
