How to tell if engine is hot

TO30 has no temperature gauge, so how can I tell if engine is running hot? I don't trust the looks of the fins on radiator because they are old and looking corroded and have several welds from previous repairs but currently does not leak. Is there a aftermarket way of installing one?

I used an aftermarket manual gauge I got from Auto zone. The sensing bulb goes to a fitting under the thermostat. Also you could get a infrared temperature gun. HF, NT, Lowes...

The TO-30 dash has a plug that you can knock out to add a temp gauge. They were offered as an accessory. As Dr. Loch said there is a plug on the water outlet on the head. Remove it and the sending unit for the gauge screws in there. Some of the newer gauges require that the hole in the water neck be drilled out bigger for the bulb on the end of the sending unit to fit. Not the threaded part but at the back of the hole. You will see it once you remove the plug.

Looking at your pictures...the knockout plug for the temp gauge is where somebody has installed a light switch on your tractor. The TO-30 light switch was on the key switch. It was a 4 position switch. Off-ignition-ignition and lights-lights.
