TO30 bell housing oily

I have removed clutch and there seems to be evidence of some oil or grease inside bell housing area, granted it could be the PB Blaster I had sprayed the other day trying to get clutch to function properly but I have pictures that will hopefully upload that was taken today. If you can look at pictures and let me know if you see something that needs to be replaced before I put this thing back together.

Oil can only get in there from two places...the transmission input shaft seal and the rear main seal on the engine. I would replace the input shaft seal while I was in there. The rear of your engine is awfully oily. It looks like it main need a new crank seal, or rope packing.
 
Looking at pictures your transmission seals are not leaking. Do you have oil dripping around the cotter key in housing when you park tractor? Like Jason said it probably rear main seal. Transmission seals are a big job unless you have done it before.
 
Thanks, I appreciate the advice. How hard is it to change rear main seal? Do I absolutely need to change it, or can I just keep on trucking with it?
 
Have to remove pan. Not sure on the 30 but you may have to split tractor to replace seal. Not leaking a lot you may want to wait until you rebuild engine if engine is in good shape. Just depends on how much it's used. If its not a show tractor and you don't mind a little leak just replace clutch.
 
Its not a show tractor for sure but I will use it probably less than 40 hours a year bush hogging and discing food plots.

Remove the oil pan and remove the flywheel and you will see the round flange that seal is pressed into. Remove the bolts from the flange (and a couple of them go from the inside of the block out to the flange) Remove the flange and install a new seal and gasket and reintsall. I still stand by my statement that I would replace the input shaft seal. If your luck is like mine, if you don't replace it as soon as you put the tractor back together it will start leaking. It's 30 mins more work and a $5.00 seal. Is it worth taking a chance on? Especially if you put a new clutch in.
 
The wet spots might be soap left over from the last time it was pressure washed in there. I've had bigger messes after a rebuilt.
Yes it is the rear seal on the engine. From the looks of it, this will have to be dealt with sometime between 2030 and the mid 2050's.
If we are still alive and in our right mind by the time this becomes a problem... come get me and miner outta the rest home... we'll show you how it's done.... bring beer and adult depends....

Both the engine rear main seal and the transmission input shaft seal can leak and get onto the clutch. The rear main leaks and then the oil gets thrown onto the inside of the hell housing which then drips onto the clutch. The input shaft seal can leak and run directly onto the clutch.
