Hydraulic Hitch raises on start

I'm an amateur in need of some help. I use my to-35 with a woods mower and I'm having trouble with the hydraulic hitch lifting as soon as I start the tractor. It very slowly raises all the way to the top as soon as I start the tractor. Then I can only lower it by engaging the clutch. The serial number begins with S3F (I think, it's pretty worn) and has a single clutch. I really appreciate any help. My email is [email protected]

Some of these people that would like to answer you might need to know the three letters in front of your serial number on the tag on the dash or if it is a single or dual clutch. Also if you would put your email address in the spot where it asks for it may also help.

On the right side, below the seat, there is a round inspection cover. Remove the cover, there is a pair of
levers pointing downward, they push against a spring loaded roller lever. With the engine running, manually
push the roller lever quickly a few times. This will clear ann debris that may be in the hydraulic valve.

JUST BE VERY CAREFUL! Don't reach in beyond the levers! Moving gears inside! And, don't over extend the
lift to the up position, can break the top cover.

Also, take the upper link off the top clevis. Feel for slack in the big spring (it's under the rubber
boot). There should be no slack in the spring. There is an adjustment nut under the boot.

There are more adjustments to solve this problem. Some are quite involved. If you can get a manual would be
best before going deeper.

I removed the cover and saw a large pin sticking up. I didn't see any levers just a couple of small holes. Are the levers in the holes?

You say you are an 'amateur'? so you've never run a 35 before? .... so I might assume you don't know how to operate the 2 levelers on the quadrant.
Depending on how worn and out of adjustment, it would take an hour to find the sweet spots to keep it from raising, and going back down, and a workable height in the middle. Do you have an operator's manual? Can you see 2 punch marks on the quadrant frame? There is a big possibility nothing is wrong or needs investigation or repair, just more practice.

I actually removed the wrong cover. I started to remove the cover in your picture then when fluid started coming out I though you may have been directing me to a cover just below the seat on the top of the tractor. I'll check that tonight. It has been a little rough getting the pto into gear the last few years and after putting the top cover back on and putting the rod back in, it seemed to engage the pto to run the mower very smoothly. A storm came through so I didn't take it out of the barn to test the hitch lift. I have an old car next to it and a stone floor so I didn't want the mower to throw a stone at the car. I'll get back to it tonight. I really appreciate your help.

I've owned this tractor for 10 years and use it to mow a 3 acre yard. (I have 40 more acres in hay that a dairy farmer uses). I definitely know how to operate the hitch. I have always been able to keep it running with fresh points and plugs and adjustment of the timing. This is the first time I've had to "open it up". My skills are at the level of brake jobs, minor electical, water pumps, alternators, suspension and steering parts, clutches, exhaust, etc. Basically removing and replacing on cars.
