Hello all,
My ole reliable TO30 is giving me a problem this spring. TO30, 12 volt conversion with alternator and solid state ignition. Fresh battery. Shows 12.6 volts at the batt terminal on the start switch, but only 3 volts at the ignition terminal on the switch with the key on. Good voltage down on the bell housing and across the old original amp meter. Wont even click the starter. The ignition switch checks out ok. Any ideas?

With the ignition switch in the on position, check the incoming voltage from the battery on the back side of
the ign switch. If it is 12v, and the ignition terminal is showing 3v, the switch is bad.

If the incoming voltage to the bat terminal is 3v, there is a bad connection betwene the battery and the
switch.

Testing the switch under load is a truer test than checking with an ohm meter or a no load test. If the
switch is bad, be sure to replace it with a tractor or marine switch. Automotive switches are not weather
resistant.
