TO-30 Gas Tank

I kept having problems with trash coming from the tank to the sediment bowl. Tried everything I knew. Finally took tank off and the baffle is moving all over the place and appears to be in two pieces. Every time it moves it stirs up rust or trash. I looked for someone local who could repair but struck out and finally ordered a new tank from this site. Now that I've done that, I have the old tank as an extra. Does anyone know the best way to solve the problem with the baffle and rust, etc., in order to sell the tank (or use it on another tractor). I'm thinking the tank needs to be cut open to remove the baffle pieces before it can be cleaned and coated. Any suggestions on best way to do that and to repair the hole? Thanks.

Although they sometimes don't advertise it, a radiator shop can clean old gas tanks, the tanks and procedures- and skills, are similar. But yeah, as the old timers retire, they are harder and harder to find.

The real problem is not so much how to clean it, but rather how to get the baffle pieces out. As long as they move around in there they will stir up stuff.

hrow a rare earth magnet in there. Baffle will stick to it and not move around anymore. One 1/4" Neodymium magnet will hold a 5lb sledge hammer so that baffle won't go anywhere. You could probably just stick it to the outside of the tank and it would work just as well. I use those things for all kinds of stuff. Usually buy them 50 at a time.

Thanks. Interesting idea. I guess those things can be dangerous around electronic equipment or magnetic cards, etc.
