Hi

2 questions.

I see in cold climates that you run 10w30 in the tea20.

whats oil is used by folks in australia. 20w50 ??
Also anyone got advice on where to get 30 litres of oil at a descent price. Looking at supercheap 10 litres for $60 thats $180 on oil for this puppy.

question 2

getting me motor back together. So looking for the best way to clean out the hydaulics on the tea 20. Its empty at present. When i drained the sump it was yellow so it had water in it. Have heard you can run diesel in the box and hyraulics sump to clean it out.

Is diesel sale to use to run for a few minutes to clean it out. Seeing it takes 23 odd litres, i do not want to flush it with new oil??

15w/40 if the engine is good , 20w/50 if showing a little wear or used in really hot conditions .
15w/40 for the rear end is fine as long as it isn't for diesel engines [ the detergent in it is supposed to harm the bronze in the pump].
I get most of my oil from Autobarn , at their last sale I bought six litres containers of 20w/50 for $10 .
Phoenix oil wholesalers sell 20 litre drums of Universal tractor oil , they might be worth a try .
Put diesel in an old weed sprayer and rinse the inside of the casting out , dropping the pump is easy and worth doing to make sure the dead space between it and the pto shaft is clean . Anything left in the lift cylinder will come out with the new oil and stick down the bottom .

Thats a steel charles $10 for 6 litres, I ve never seen it that cheap. Think autobarn have a sale on now, betta give em a call.

Yeah recon i ll rinse it with some diesel and pull the pto shaft to drain.

What fergie you got Charles, tea20 or something else?

You can rinse it out with diesel or just about any petroleum base solvent. If the top cover is off you can reach in with a hand full of soaked rags and swab around the lower areas of the sump, or reach through the round holes on the sides. No need to fill it up to flush it, just a couple gallons will be enough for the pump to pick up and flush the hydraulics. You won't get it totally clean, but any moisture will evaporate when it gets up to operating temperature.

If you are going to switch to detergent engine oil, I would strongly suggest that you drop the pump and clean the pump properly. Otherwise all the sediment that has settled in the bottom of the sump will be cleaned by the detergent in the engine oil and will be held in suspension by the oil and circulated thru your hydraulic system over and over because there is no filter. The mineral oil allowed the dirt to settle to the bottom of the sump where it remained until the pump was removed and cleaned out.

1952 TED , and a 1957 FE35 Grey and Gold .

Jason S. has given good advice , dropping the pump and cleaning it is the best thing to do . Doesn't need to be dismantled , a good rinse out and turning over by hand will do , especially if you want to move the tractor on rather than keep it . Pulling the PTO really is essential , I have pulled literal hands full of sediment out from between the pump and the pto flange .
