I just bought a TO 20 Ferguson a short time ago and can not get any spark out of it at all,put in new points and condenser, new plugs, set points at .020 ,also put in a new 6volt coil, cant think of any thing else I should do, any one have any suggestions that I could try, thanks.John

Did you file the contact faces of the points ? Sometimes the clear protective lacquer on these is so thick it insulates the contact completely .

I had a weird problem with my TO30 till I switched over to an electronic ignition.

So I would go to start her after sitting a day or so and no spark going through all the wiring I knew there was power to the distributor but still no spark. I checked the gap forgetting to turn the key off and I had spark, hmmm. Turned the engine over with distributor cap off and watched the points work and spark. Distributor back on the fired right up. I still don't have the reason why it worked, for quite a few years If it didn't start I would pop the cap off and quickly check the points with a screw driver (key on) look for spark and the use the tractor.

Somehow it excited something to make it work and had a built in antitheft device. Petronix fixed that though.

Look for point spark.

Make sure you are getting 6 volts from the key switch to the coil also. The switch could be bad.

Hi John. Have you checked the gap in the plugs? I had an issue like this and it turned out that the gaps were way out.

Send me an email.

Thanks Bruce, Not exactly sure what my problem was. I took the points out and the wire from the coil, replaced them after checking them all over ,replace them and now Have spark,so still not sure what the problem was, something must have been shorted, any way thanks for the advise, and every one else that gave me some ideas, sure is a great site.

might try taking an conductive meter check on the wire you took off.

then move the wire around some and check it again, you could have a broken wire inside the insulation,

when you took the dizzy top off, you moved the wire just enough to make contact.

that theory is highly suspect, but what else could it be.
new wire fixed the problem.

hope the new wire continues to fix the problem, but for me: problems like this, sometimes come back
