TO35 lift speed

The trans/hyd sump in my 1957 TO35 is full of GL-1 90 weight mineral oil.

Normally this winter I warmed up the engine as I waited for the lift to raise, guess I was used to waiting on the lift.

Yesterday, it was 60 degrees here in KY, I fired up the tractor, pulled up on the lift lever, was expecting to wait for the lift. But, just as soon as I moved the lift lever, the lift started up, I was momentarily shocked, guess I had just forgot how the lift normally works.

I just changed the transmission hydraulic oil two years ago, so I am not ready to drain and refill with 10w30 motor oil.

My plans are to replace the 90 weight GL-1 mineral oil maybe next year,

I used to use 90w in the MF 35 but when I got a loader for it I went to hytran and the hydraulics work much better in the cold. It seems to be okay for the gears too, at least so far.

I barely touch my ferguson's in the winter. the 90wt is fine with me. as far as changing oil? not till it starts to show discolor.

I switched over to motor oil about 6-7 years ago with very happy results. Used to put an engine block heater on the transmission to heat up the GL1 in the winter and defrost the accumulated water that it draws in. Now no problems all winter. Make the switch for easier winter use.
