rebuilt motor wont fire. new carb kit. will fire if gas is put directly into cylinder or if hand is held over air intake but only for a couple of seconds. intake manifold dosent appear to be cracked. carb has been taken apart several times looking for blockage. gas runs through carb if drain plug removed. any suggestions on what could be wrong. zenith carb

Typically three filters in system. have you cleaned them? Remove fuel line from carby. Turn on gas. Should flow like cow pissing on flat rock.
If no flow, remove drain assy in bottom of gas tank and inspect that also. Got flow? Filter inside of carb fitting might be blocked. Better flow with gas cap removed? Plugged vent on top of cap.
BTW. Your craking has pretty much wiped the walls on the cylinders. Drop some oil in there to keep the rings happy and sealed to prevent compression loss.

Timing and point gap set correctly ? Extra fuel or a richer mixture will compensate for a weaker or mistimed spark . try advancing or retarding the distributor a little at a time . As Bruce said don't forget the filter up inside the tank , looks like an upright cigarette on a TEA , two if it is a TED . Remove this , place on an anvil and belt the living daylights out of it with a mash hammer . Then throw the remains into an enemy's front yard .
:) Useless things that cause untold trouble .

Zenith carburretors fitted to TE20s do not normally have an internal filter.

bruce is right, pull plugs-squirt oil into cylinders-spin 2-3 times-reinstall plugs.if it still won't suck fuel-u have a suction leak-most likely the carb gasket(where it mounts to manifold) please remember this are updraft engines-suction is everything to run.
