Bombardier Tracks

This morning I picked up a set of tracks. I stumbled onto a guy who lives across town who had them in his back yard. Looks like the tires are shot, but that's fixable. Lotsa rust to deal with from them sitting outside. And they've seen some rough use, so some of the treads are bent.

I don't know much about these things, like how to mount them. I think they're half tracks, and don't go all the way around the front wheels. But I'm not sure.

Anyone ever mess with a set of these? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You are correct in saying that the tracks did ot go to the front wheels. A third pair of wheels were mounted between the front and rear wheels. There was a article on them in a magazine over here in England not long ago. A fencing company has 2 or 3 MF"s equipped with them and are still in daily use. They routinely rebuild the tracks as necessary, parts are available from specialists. If you are interested email me and I will find more details.

Here are a couple of pics showing a set installed on a Ferguson. Not much help as to HOW to install them.

They are half-tracks, you don't really want to get involved with full tracks unless you have a special job for it as they are very hard to steer so you need a big area to turn, but half tracks are OK. They used full tracks in the Antarctic, they really did need them out there. Good luck with them, looks like you have a lot of work there, but they will be worth it in the end..John

Thanks for the pictures. Doesn't look like that little girl is too terribly excited about having her picture taken.

Thanks for the info.

I don't think I could afford to have parts for them shipped over here.

Any idea what these are worth? I paid $150 for them.

Yesterday I priced replacement tires. Looks like they'll run about $90 each with tax and all.

(quoted from post at 01:37:48 09/23/09) I think I have a manual somewhere on them.I would love a set of these.Send me a email

there appear to be a bunch of sets for sale at an upcoming ford enthusiast auction in minnesota. they are the arps brand for the ford but they seem to be interchangeable. wish i could get out there and see what is what.

I have just joined the Forum many years after you made this post in the hope you might pick it up. I have the same half tracks as in the photo for this post. Mine are on perished vulcanised rubber bands, which are not difficult to source from conveyor belt suppliers, but I would prefer steel links from the 'parts are available from specialists' you quote. I too am in the UK. Who are those 'specialists'? And I would be interested in seeking a back copy of the article you mention. Thanks.

2009????? Holy cow. Who dug up this post??
That little girl must be a super model by now!
And those tracks would bring about 15,000 in Boston lately....
