Stuck oil pump relief plunger

I was going thru the oil pump for the Z120 I am putting together for my second tractor. All the clearances are good in the gears but before I put it back together I thought I would check the relief valve. I removed the cotter pin and got the retainer, spring, and one washer out but no plunger. It is stuck. Stuck good. I tried air pressure but it didn't work. Any other ideas?

I had the same problem, I used a small punch to get it out. The
plunger is not working, so you probably did not have any pressure.

I had to redo mine 4 times before I got it to work. You will have to
take emery cloth and clean the inside of the plunger well to get the
new one to work.

I had a similar issue with my TO30 oil pump. I used either a pipe tap or an EZ-out to grip the plunger after letting it sit for awhile soaking in PB Blaster. I then polished the bore and piston and worried that I had removed too much material but the pressure was OK at idle and good above that. I think I will plan in a new piston if I ever go in there again.

Well the motor was new when the tractor was parked over 20 years ago but the plunger was stuck where it had sat for so many years. I did manage to get the plunger out today. I used a drill bit that fit tightly inside of the plunger and I was able to hook the plunger and pull it out.
